报告人简介

Prof. A. Ping Zhang received the BSc and MSc degrees from Zhejiang University (ZJU) in 1997 and 2000, respectively, and received the PhD degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2003. He started his academic career in ZJU in 2003 and then worked in State University of New-York at Buffalo (UB) and University of California, San Diego (UCSD) in 2006-2008 and 2011, respectively. He joined the Department of Electrical Engineering (currently Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University as an Associate Professor in 2012 and now is a Professor at the same department since 2020. Prof. Zhang is currently a management committee member of PolyU’s Photonics Research Institute and a core member of State Key Laboratory of Ultra-precision Machining Technology. His research interests include optical micro-/nano-fabrication technologies, photonic devices, sensors, and microsystem.

报告摘要

Micro- and nano-photonic devices are increasingly important in fields such as integrated optics and sensing. However, their development remains limited, in part due to the challenges of high-precision fabrication. Here, we present micro-/nano-photonic devices and sensors printed directly using digital ultraviolet lithography (DUL). Utilizing our proprietary DUL technology, we demonstrate that high-Q whispering-gallery-mode microlaser sensors with deformed microcavities can be rapidly printed for on-chip integrated biodetection. Furthermore, we show that optomechanical microresonators can be directly printed onto the end face of optical fibers, enabling the creation of ultra-miniature, highly sensitive fiber-tip optomechanical resonant photoacoustic gas sensors for real-time trace-gas detection applications.
